MAY 2024

Sign the petition to help Uncles Pabai & Paul, traditional owners from the Torres Strait, who are leading the FIRST class action climate case against the Australian government. They’re taking the Federal Government to court over rising sea levels and climate harm to their island homes. I promoted their petition on Youth Ocean Carnival instagram for the weekend 4/5 May, 2024.

Lismore Youth Ocean Workshop

6 May: The last regional Youth Ocean “Wave of Change” workshop was held at Lismore. (A total of 5 workshops have been held in NSW regional areas and over 1,500 students were in attendance.)

Up to 550 students from secondary Trinity Catholic College, northern fringe of Lismore attended the workshop. Following the devastating floods of 2022 in Lismore, many of these students witnessed firsthand the impacts of climate change. Yet, they emerged from the workshop with a renewed sense of optimism, realising that they can make a difference, regardless of their age or expertise, just like the inspirational speakers who shared their stories.

Big thank you to NSW Government (Office of Regional Youth) and Dream Building Design to enable the workshops to be held.

9 May: How fun to speak to an audience with Fjallraven They are an outdoor company who do their utmost to their environmental footprint as small as possible. As they say Sustainability is a special kind of trekking….there are many checkpoints, but no finish line.

The night involved a Film Screening and Q&A afterwards at the Australian Museum, William Street, Sydney (scheduled for Climate Action Week). Key takeout from film: …..you just have to take the first step…..

19 May: End of Climate Action Week - spending breakfast with Val the Vegan Chef: His mission is to make people aware of the infinite flavoursome possibilities of vegan cuisine.
